Who Is Leon King?

Who is Leon King? That’s exactly what I asked when I received a link to his myspace page but after hearing his music it quickly became evident that Leon King was someone I wanted to know more about. The London singer, songwriter, producer, guitarist and keyboard player whose father was a musician started playing guitar at 5 years old, professionally by the time he was 15. The self taught musician was inspired by Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone and George Benson. After hearing the smooth vibe and lush vocals on his EP “The Digital Church” I can hear those influences and understand why he admires artists from J. Dilla to Bilal, Eric Roberson and D’Angelo. As with most music I feel a connection to, I feel I’ve gotten to know Leon King a little better just by listening.
If you’re a fan of soulful music you should get to know Leon King too. Listen to The Digitial Church and Faze from his EP below and check out more of his music on myspace. The “Digital Church” EP is available on Arision Recordings but for U.S residents, try digitaldancetracks or if you’re partial to iTunes, his partial EP (5 out of 7 songs) is there too. Thanks to Ohsokool for the heads up.
