Meshell Ndegeocello will release her eighth album and her first on the Mercer Street label “Devil’s Halo” on October 6th. According to the press release Meshell feels that Devil’s Halo represents a return to a place that she truly appreciates, music that is created and performed by people’s hands. It’s said to be influenced by a wide breadth of sounds – from The Human League to Wu Tang to Yes.

The followup to 2007’s The World Has Made Me the Man of My Dreams will be produced by Meshell and guitarist Chris Bruce. Additional musicians on the album are Deantoni Parks (drums), Keefus Ciancia (keys), Lisa Germano (cello), Oren Bloedow and Mark Kelly (background vocals).

Check the Devil’s Halo tracklist below. Interestingly, one of the tracks is Love You Down and last week on her blog Meshell posted an amateur video of a trio singing the Ready For The World hit. Could we be hearing Meshell’s cover of the song on the new album? I certainly hope so. I can practically hear her singing it now. We can all hear Meshell singing one of the new tracks in the video below. She performs Mass Transit on August 7th at the Lincoln Center ‘Out Of Doors’ concert series. Meshell will embark on a three week tour in support of the new album starting on October 6th in NYC. Check her tour dates after the video.
