Happy Birthday Hip Hop! (Rare Video)

I was checking out allhiphop when I discovered that Hip Hop just had a birthday on August 11th, it’s 36th:

It was 36 years ago to this very day that a young Clive Campbell aka DJ Kool Herc and a handful of kids in a small, sweltering rec room of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue on August 11, 1973 started a music and cultural revolution that changed the world forever!

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with hip hop but it’s a part of who I am and I honor the day it was born. I’m going play all my favorite classic hip hop joints and reminisce but before I do I wanted to share these rare video finds with you. The first is of the Father of Hip Hop, Kool Herc talking about the birth of Hip Hop. The next is part of a TV series, a segment called “The Perfect Beat,” that traces the roots of Hip Hop from Jamaica to the Bronx, from Kool Herc to Grandmaster Flash to Afrika Bambaataa to Kraftwerk, and even includes Muhammad Ali and Deborah Harry from Blondie.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!
