We know that a mixtape is sort of a tease for the upcoming album, but what do you call a preview of the mixtape before the mixtape is released? Whatever you call it, we’ve got it right here. We told you about Melanie Fiona and Questlove’s “anti-mixtape” last month. It’s supposed to drop any day now but in the meantime check out Ay Yo off the “WQST Radio Presents Melanie Fiona Meets The Illadelphonics (A Live Remix Jam Session of The Bridge).” So what do you call a preview of a mixtape that’s not really a mixtape to begin with, that’s not really a preview of the actual album songs but rather live interpretations? Speaking of supposed to drop, Melanie Fiona’s official debut album The Bridge has already been released overseas and was supposed to drop in the U.S. on August 18th but Amazon is listing the release date as September 22nd. Now that’s confusing. After you download Ay Yo, take a look at a video of Melanie, Questlove and the Illadelphonics in the studio recording Monday Morning for the mixtape.
