RIP Isaac Hayes

Isaac Lee Hayes, Jr. (August 20, 1942 – August 10, 2008)
Soul legend Isaac Hayes was found unresponsive in his home today (August 10, 2008) and pronounced dead later at a Memphis hospital. Singer, songwriter, musician, producer, arranger, composer and actor Isaac Hayes played an instrumental part in the sound of the legendary Stax Records where he recorded popular albums Hot Buttered Soul in 1969 and Black Moses in 1971. His best known work may have been his film score for the 1971 blaxploitation movie Shaft. That earned Hayes an Academy Award for Best Original Song (the first Academy Award received by an African-American in a non-acting category) and two Grammy Awards. He received a third Grammy for the album Black Moses. Our condolences to his friends and family.
The news of the deaths of both Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac this weekend has been so sad and unexpected. Ironically there is a photo of them together on Isaac Haye’s site. They filmed a movie together called “Soul Men.”

A sad loss for music. The words legend & icon are often thrown about, but for Isaac Hayes, these words were fully warranted in describing the man. His musical legacy will be here forever. My he RIP
