Conversation with TJ Brown

It’s all about love for TJ Brown. From singing in church to dreaming complete song arrangements, her love of music manifested early. TJ began writing songs for others and doing session work. Her love of music soon lead her to the front of the stage as a solo singer. On her debut CD Love’s Design the Chicago native sets a mood that keeps you warm and chills you out. TJ doesn’t rely on over produced tracks to get her simple message of love across. She crafts a contemporary soul album that recalls a time before much of the current day “hype and no substance” songs. The slow grooves and ballads stand out because of their simplicity and pure emotion.
Love permeates the lyrics and TJ delivers each line as if she has lived it. In many cases she has lived all the joy and pain she sings about in her first musical release. Her songwriting plays an integral part as it adds a deep soulfulness and sincerity to the project. From dreaming about songs to making her own dreams come true we get to come along on a musical journey where TJ Brown makes us believe it’s all in love’s design. In this edition of Soul 2 Soul TJ Brown talks about moving from the background as a songwriter to up front as a singer and she talks about the long road to releasing her debut album.
