Conversation with Daru & Rena

by Vonnie “Honey” Woods

In this edition of Soul 2 Soul we speak with up and coming brother and sister act, Daru and Rena. On their latest album, “Outtakes, Bootlegs & B-Sides” the siblings are set out to redefine soul and hip hop with their brand of feel good music known as soul-hop. Individually the two bring their own unique talents to table. As a drummer/producer Daru’s many years of experience helped to shape the sound that Rena’s angelic vocals compliment so well. Rave reviews and comparisons to J. Dilla have not gone to their head. They remain humble and focused on their mission to bring message music to the masses.

By no means are these two green to the music industry. Daru has traveled extensively with various groups including Slum Village. In 1996 at the How Can I Be Down A&R Conference, Daru and Rena opened up for EMI recording artist Alfonzo Hunter. So where have the two been all these years and why are we only now getting a taste of the talents they possess? The answers to this and more are waiting to be discovered by you on this edition of Soul 2 Soul. Listen to the interview below.
