Conversation with Kirk Franklin

Kirk Franklin Interview on HoneySoul.com

by Vonnie “Honey” Woods

Kirk Franklin is back with a new single Declaration (This Is It!) from his forthcoming album Fight Of My Life. The Forth Worth Texas native broke new ground in Christian music and broke records in 1993 with his debut album “Kirk Franklin & The Family” (the first gospel debut album to go platinum). More albums and collaborations followed as did awards, movies soundtracks, and hosting BET’s reality based talent show “Sunday’s Best.” Known for mixing gospel, hip hop, r&b and rock into his own motivational and uplifting style Kirk Franklin’s music transcends genres. His fan base is just as inclusive with loyal listeners of all races and denominations. The biggest selling contemporary gospel artist in Soundscan history is not without criticism and controversy but as with his music, Kirk Franklin’s focus is always on a higher power and continuing to make honest music.

In this candid conversation Kirk Franklin talks about being a role model, the purpose of his music and he explains the importance of his connection to God. We also discuss something funny from his past that not many people know about and he tells us why we should buy his latest album Fight of My Life.

i appreciate the fact that mr. franklin is sooo down to earth & just plain silly. he’s not full of himself & he gives the credit to whom it is due–our Heavenly Father.

I soo enjoyed this interview! I have always enjoyed Kirk’s music, and the way he has managed to entwine gospel and hip-hip in a positive way. He made me laugh, gave me “food for thought” and, as he said, regardles of the lives we lead, we all ALL God’s children!

Kid Fresh! Holla! That was great! I am that kind of sister that has Little Brother, but I also have Kirk. I have Common, but I also have India.Arie, or Donald Lawerence. I think I have found a good place to call home for serious soul information. This site is going into my favorites

Great interview. I love the “realness” of both the Honey and Kirk. She asked great questions that did not demoralize Kirk (unlike some other interviewers)AND Kirk was just so open and calm and down to earth and I love that!! Excellent. You get an A+ and a perfect 10 for this one!!!

I love Kirk Franlin becuase he gives young people like me a chance to just be ourselves. So many times people get so caught in themselves that they forget that young people go through to. I thank God that kirk has been anointed to lead this generation to Glory!!!

Wow, until I got to this site, I never would have thought it existed. The atmosphere is fantastic and it’s just what the world needs. Thanks

Secondly, thanks for the interview with Kirk: let’s buy Kirk’s album till the record company is forced to bring out more of his inspirational type of music.

My love to you and Kirk

“Fight of My Life” is all I’ve been listening to for the past 3 weeks! I’ve never been disappointed with a Kirk CD and this one is hot fiyah! EVERY song is a hit…I can play the CD all the way through. Kirk is such a visionary and it’s an inspiration to see him not be confined to any one style of music. He can sing, rap, exalt–you can’t box this dude in and God is truly using him. I appreciate his realness and that really comes across in this interview (love the Kid Fresh part, lol).

Thanks, Honey Soul! In the words of Kirk and my motto for 2008, “LET’S GET IT!!”
