Muhsinah

Pronounced [mu•sē•nə]
Do you really have to sell sex to people in order for them to pay attention to you? Shouldn’t the love of your craft speak volumes of you? Shouldn’t your tireless amounts of practice cause people to stand and take notice of the amazing gift you possess?
One thing is for sure about Muhsinah; sex is NOT for sale! Relying heavily on her skills as a singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, musician, engineer and composer, Muhsinah seemingly brings a “take me or leave me” air to this starving music scene.
Having a classical training background, this Washington, DC native would spend numerous hours polishing her skills on velocity pads and records, left behind from her mother’s days as a DJ. With influences spanning from classical to psychedelic, jazz to world and back, the freshly transplanted Brooklyn resident has gained a newfound appreciation for space and the sound within the space.
This year, Muhsinah has lent her skills to numerous independent releases such as Little Brother’s “Get Back” and Hezekiah’s “I Predict A Riot”. Now comes the time for this true musical phenomenon to shine on her debut album aptly titled “day.break” Entirely self-produced, “day.break” is a heartfelt homage to her inspirations, filled with thoughtful compositions and inspired wordplay.
Often times, snatching inspiration right out of the air, Muhsinah employs whatever sonic element she sees fit to complete her hip hop laced, soul compositions which appear to fall perfectly on the tastier side of experimental.
Instantaneously, “day.break” seems to blast the listener on a cosmic journey of sounds, free expressions and head nodding rhythms! With songs like Discovery, Once Again and Millions_Siz, it would be hard NOT to strap yourself in and enjoy this ride.
