My New Bio

I’m always trying to get artists to reveal a bit more about themselves. When a publication asked about me recently, I really didn’t know what to say. I’ve always been a really private person but honeysoul.com has really put me out there so it just seems like a natural progression to reveal more about what I do and why I do it. This bio was written by an amazing and intuitive writer named Steve Burks. He’s really captured the essence of me in two paragraphs. I have to admit that after reading it (and getting over that apprehension of talking about myself), I felt pretty proud. You’ll be hearing more from Steve in the coming weeks and learning more about me professionally and personally. I welcome your comments.

Vonnie “Honey” Woods
Giving Soul Music A Voice

“Anything great always starts with love,” says soul-music aficionado Vonnie “Honey” Woods, whose means of expressing her sincere, simple passion for the music and its artists, has grown from a small mailing list about new music finds, to a weekly internet show called Soul 2 Soul (projectvibe.net), a morning radio show called Honey Soul’s Sunrise (90.1 FM, KPFT Houston), and HoneySoul.com, a site that receives visitors from at least 12 countries, including the U.K, Canada, Netherlands, France, Sweden, Japan, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Jamaica, Germany and Austria. The site has ranked as highly as #20 of out 198 million “soul music” searches on Google, and it has been referenced and/or acknowledged by Prince’s official site, Eurweb.com, Capital Records, Okayplayer.com, AOL Black Voices, and Philadelphia Weekly – all in only two years.

After 40 interviews in one year – which Honey prefers to call “conversations” (with soul luminaries such as India.Arie, Teena Marie, Ron Isley, Mint Condition’s Stokley Williams, Goapele, Van Hunt, Amel Larrieux, Donell Jones, Dwele, Bilal Salaam, and Syleena Johnson), Honey shows no signs of slowing down. The former banker and self-described “bridge … between good old soul music and those of us who love it,” is known for her command of “the art of conversation,” for making the music the star (”It’s never been about who I could talk to, but what I can reveal about music”) and her emotion-centered definition of soul music. “From R&B to hip hop to jazz to gospel to rock, if you can feel it, I call it soul.” Honey sums up her platform this way: “If you’re a soul artist making meaningful music, let’s talk.”
