Conversation with Choklate

Choklate is on everybody’s lips. The soulful songstress along with executive producer Vitamin D and producers Jake One, Bean One, Amos Miller, Jay Townsend, and Kuddie Mak have created one of the best albums of the year. Her self titled album Choklate is a fusion of hip hop and soul that manages to bring a new taste to both. Not only is that a perfect recipe for the deliciously talented Choklate but also a treat for the soul music connoisseur.
Choklate relocated to Seattle from Southern California and made a name for herself on the local hip hop and r&b scenes. She has lent her soulfulness to projects by Breakestra, Boom Bap Project, Blacksheep, Gift of Gab, De La Soul, Butta Verses, Abstract Rude, Supernatural and Chali 2na. Soul music lovers first got a taste of Choklate on the remarkable compilation, The Kajmere Sound Volume 1.
Choklate’s self-titled debut album is the perfect blend of gritty hip hop beats, clever songwriting and raw, soulful vocals. The singer/songwriter displays such versatility by exploring soul in all its forms that it makes you wonder why musically we’ve gotten used to just one flavor. “Waitin’ ft. Chali 2na” would fit right into place on any club’s dance floor while “Bigger Than You” has a soul cafe vibe and yet still “What’s About To Go Down” would be at home in any blues lounge. Choklate is addictive.
Choklate is available at Amazon, CD Baby and iTunes.

—Sista Sugaagain… good interview V!
(unrelated) i watched Save Room…can John be faithful for ONE video? it has a nice tune to it, but that whole playa playa lifestyle is SO overdone! i hope and PRAY that the album has more subject matter than this.
—jah_luvexcellent interview…you two really connected for a unique exchange…i definately have to peep your show now!
—el gimp, BREAKTIME RADIO SHOWI co-sign with Jah on the Video. I think he’s trying to dispell alot of rumors. I don’t for one minute take that “playa” persona seriously.

All my friends know about Choklate (and
you know I have a special luv for all things
Chokl8…lol)!
I see FABULOUSNESS in her future!
As always great interview. The funny thing is I just heard Choklate’s song Wish I Hadn’t Told You and was about to rush over here to talk about it, but I guess I’m a little late LOL. That song is bananas and the lyrics are the truth. I heard her full album at music.download.com. I’ve only know about Choklate for 20 minutes and she is dope. I will be searching for her album.
—TamekiaI can’t believe I forgot to comment.
—ceeceeGreat interview…I was rotflmho, thanks Honey I really needed the pick-me-upper. You don’t even know :)
About Choklate… I’m glad you profiled her because I’ve seen the album… now I know the artist behind the album. And I’m definitely glad I now know because I will be scoopin’ up that album… everything I’ve heard is dope.
—R7SoulkiddAs far as the John Legend video… I liked it!! I know those who are gonna trip on his various tales of being ‘unfaithful’ and may label him a ‘playa’… but I don’t really see that.. and I think there’s alot of ‘tongue-n-cheek’ when it comes to John Legend… his name is even that way… so, I wouldn’t trip off that too much.
—R7SoulkiddChoklate…is so tight!! The interview is great. I’m so feeling this sistah’s spirit. From someone who knows her…her music is so true to her!!! Pick up the album and help spread the word about her!
—DBrownchoklate could be the breakout artist of 07,her cd is one the most listened too in my nu-soul collection, i would love to hear choklate sing over production by 9thwonder,illmind,s-1,eric roberson, touch of jazz, now that would be tight, she is an important artist in soul right now,and i will continue to be a lover of her music.
