Conversation with Darien Brockington

Darien Brockington on Honeysoul.com

Darien Brockington has made a name for himself singing unforgettable hooks and harmonies on tracks from Foreign Exchange, Pete Rock, and Big Pooh. He’s paid some dues touring with Little Brother and with Jaheim as a background singer. We all know the brother can sing, but can he carry our interest and the groove for an entire solo album?

He can and he does. You know when you hear his Marvin Gaye like harmonies on the first track “Somebody to Love” that this is going to be something different. He sets the tone there and proceeds to own every song like he’s got something to prove with this debut album. Maybe he does. He doesn’t fit neatly into the soul or r&b or hip hop category. He’s all that. The soul of the 60’s, the r&b goodness of the 80’s and the tight productions of today. It’s the 80’s freshness we hear on the hip hop flavored “More & More” (ft. Chaundon) and D. Brock sets the mood for today’s grown and sexy with a series of ballads that include “I Miss You.” If you prefer to label your music, Somebody to Love is an r&b album. If you’re more of a free thinker then just call it good music. Somebody To Love features production from Phonte Coleman, 9th Wonder (Little Brother) and E. Jones. The album will be in stores October 3.
