Conversation with Carol Riddick

Carol Riddick on Soul 2 Soul

Do you know Carol Riddick? If you are a fan of soul music you’ve heard her voice.
The Philadelphia born songstress has worked with wide array of her soul peers and graced their tracks with her indelibly smooth vocals. The most notable of those soul tracks may be Musiq’s “Soulstar” but she has also been featured on tracks from Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Kindred, and Norman Brown. She’s shared the stage with artists and producers including Brian McKnight, Yolanda Adams, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, James Poyser, and Keith Crouch.

After those productive partnerships we now get the opportunity to learn more about Carol, the individual performer. Her outstanding debut album Moments Like This showcases the evolution of the soul singer. Carol couples her songwriting and production skills with live instrumentation and soulful vocals, making the album consistently fresh and engaging. From her passionate vocals on “You Better Not Hurt Me” to the inspirational lyrics of “Brown Eyed Girl,” Carol draws upon her own personal experiences and translates her stories into an entertaining and life affirming musical testament. Her debut has received rave reviews and from the local buzz to the international acclaim for her singing and stellar stage shows, it appears she’ll have a new chapter to incorporate into her music. Moments Like This is available at retailers and online at Carol’s site.

She is has the most beautiful spirit that I have ever come in contact with. The cd contains some of the best vocals that I’ve hear in a very long time. Carol’s stage presents and live delivery of a song reminds of Ms. Nancy Wilson. Carol is such a lady. She is a wonderful example. I’m so glad that she is being recognized for her talent.

With the exception of backing vocals for Jill Scott, I have no idea what your voice sounds like; however, everyone (…at least those on the soul music scene) is raving about you. And, I just learned that you’re 35. What a hell of an achievement in today’s music industry! I can’t say that I’ll pick up your album (I’m also 35 and, after all, according to industry “stats”: records are bought primarily by those between the ages of 10-17), but I do wish you all the best. Good luck in all that you’re doing.

I’m very excited for Carol, knowing her since she was a child. Once she decided to go after her music career she was relentless, and we are all so very happy for her. Carol truly is the conumate professinal, and continually developes a premier composer and performer. We, the Gilmore family, friends and music colleague congratulate you Carol, and I personally say to all of you who haven’t yet experienced her CD and performance, go buy it, and go see Carol in action. You will remenber her performance the rest of your life. Peace & Blessngs/Robert Gilmore & Family
