Conversation with Donell Jones

Donell Jones understands that in life and music there are two sides, the good and the bad. The Atlanta based singer/songwriter/producer has triumphed through career uncertainties like record label transitions and survived personal hardships including his battle with alcoholism. Today he is a man who stands focused and strong, ready to pick back up where he left off, at the top of his game. His new album reflects not on his musical growth but his personal growth as he puts his life lessons to song.
On Journey Of A Gemini, the crooner’s new R&B odyssey, he takes us on a quest to explain his own relationship woes with the sexy serenades we’ve come to expect from the balladeer on “My Apology” and “I’m Gonna Be.” He addresses social issues on “Cry” and keeps the dance floor jumping with uptempo tracks like the lead single “Better Start Talking” featuring Jermaine Dupri. It’s been ten years since his debut album My Heart and Donell is still putting his heart into his music. Donell’s fourth album, the long-awaited Journey Of A Gemini will be in stores June 20.
In this edition of Soul 2 Soul, Donell Jones talks candidly about his personal life, the internet leaks, his new album and even sings for us.

—TashaTo Donell:
Take this opportunity that you have as a single man to reflect on the many situations you endured in your life thus far. Remember the title of your album: Journey of a Gemini…… life is full of unexpected situations, many disappointments, numerous challenges and most of all plenty of opportunities to learn, apply and do more. The more we experience in this life, the more we should have a willingness to pass on what we have faced and how we over come to others. In doing so, we learn to be a leader show others we will fight til the end, be willing to give knowledge & wisdom – motivation & inspiration all the way through our life’s journey. Sometimes, we are reluctant to sit in the driver seat of the vehicle of life, for we have a natural desire to be in the passenger seat and let someone else create the road map to our journey in this life. I can tell you from my own experience, being in the driver seat in the vehicle of life is the only way to see life for what it is. No one can see life through your eyes, only you know your destination and once you create the road map, you will finally be on that journey, the Journey of a Gemini.
Peace & Love,

—oluwaseun akinwandeWith all of the BS in R&B Music that has been going on
for the past 2+ Years (from 2006 onwards), Donell Jones
has shown he has not changed one bit. He should be
getting much more recognition for his creativity in the
Music Industry, as a Singer, Songwriter, and Producer.
When I first heard of him, I though he was alright.
That was 1999 when I was 13 with Shorty Got Her Eyes On
Me, then in 2002 when I heard You Know That I Love You,
I liked it. When 2006 came, & I heard his 4th LP will be
released, I decided to check it out. I listened to not
just the very good Songs on there, I checked out his old
LP’s. I was so surprised that almost every Track was
great, making me wonder why I did not listen to him
sooner. I now have almost all of his Songs on my Media
Player. This is what real R&B is.
Once again, thank you DJ for separating yourself from
—Lightningall the Artists who are on TV, putting out any Songs, &
keeping it real.
