Friday Freestyle

There’s a soap opera going on in this week’s Friday Freestyle radio blog. On this week’s edition of The Young & The SoulfulTrina Broussard tells us about the lies. Syleena and Angela Johnson are tired of the deception. Mint Condition, Peven Everett and Musiq want to know what’s really going on. Lina, Mysti Day and Frank McComb have had enough. Angie Stone & Valencia Robinson try to come to a resolution. Finally, Jamie Jones offers a solution and a happy ending.

I’ll be talking to at least 3 of the artists in the playlist on upcoming editions of Soul 2 Soul. Who will it be? Stay tuned. See, I told you it was like a soap opera, lol.

Friday Freestyle

I was really in my zone when putting together this radio blog. This is the type of music I listen to most often…smooth soul. Although I didn’t intend it, I noticed that alot of the artists have something in common. Most were background singers or members of a group before going solo.

There is an ex back-up singer for Jill Scott who goes by the name of V, and ex-Brownstone member, Nicci Gilbert. Also there is a background singer for Little Brother and Foreign Exchange, Darien Brockington and Martin Luther who has performed with the Roots. Alison Crockett, Leena Conquest, and Julie Dexter started as band vocalists before going solo.

Coincidentally, those last three ladies have taught music in the past or teach now. Rachelle Ferrell also taught music but I know you can’t teach anyone to hit that high note the way she does on the track with her six octave range. Wow, that’s amazing. Ok, that’s enough trivia, let’s get to the music.

[...] My hip hop show on projectvibe last week was so popular, they played it again, lol. Ok, not really. Due to some technical difficulties, we got a repeat of last week’s show. The Sweet Soul radio blog was scheduled. Since I told you (over on the messageboard) that you would get two downloads this week I decided to make another choice available for download, In My Zone. The Sweet Soul show will run next week on projectvibe with the podcast to follow. [...]

Friday Freestyle

All hip hop this week on Friday Freestyle. A few of these snuck up on me. You know how you hear something but don’t pay much attention to it until you hear it again. Slum Village’s It’z Your World from their latest Prequel to a Classic was like that. OhSoKool played it on his radio show and I thought, ok, I’m feeling that now. Young Jeezy ft Jay-Z’s Go Crazy (remix) was another. My nephew sent it to me this morning and it was the perfect fit. Mainly this week’s radio.blog is all about the beat.
