AOL is giving us the opportunity to see Luther live one more time. They are presenting the full live concert from Luther Vandross in Wembley circa 1989. I can't even call it a concert, it's more like a spectacular. Anyone who has been fortunate to see Luther live knows what I'm talking about. You knew he was going to sharp (at whatever weight), the background singers (Ava Cherry, Kevin Owens, & Lisa Fischer) would be on point with the vocals and harmonies and the choreography would be flawless. The ultimate showman, the ultimate singer. Luther was the man! I miss him already.

Male female duo Taron Benson and Voodo Fe'Mathelier started an alternative hip hop group called Phoenix and the Shadow in 2001 to showcase their musical style that uses a beat mixture of Reggae, Drum n Bass, Afro Punk, and dub that they call a "trippy star" sound. They have opened for Meshell N'degeocello, Arrested Development, and Naughty by Nature and will be releasing their debut, self-titled album on July 5, 2005. Joke all you want about the first video, I admit it is funny to watch it now but I'm telling you back in the day you couldn't tell me this wasn't the best thing out. My best friend Debra and I waited on pins and needles for her brother to bring this back from the record shop. We were about 12 and both already hooked on Prince since his For You album, but with a song titled "Soft and Wet", neither of our parents would let us buy it, so we waited in the cut like lil drug fiends for this one, LOL.
..about 10 years later..
The title of the post will make more sense after you watch the second video. It represents a Prince we probably won't see anymore but it's all good because this one is still burning HOT. Push play and enjoy!

Did anyone see Prince's performance on last nights NAACP Image Awards?

He gave an amazing performance after accepting the "Vanguard Award". I was up out of my seat dancing, memories of my concert going days flooding back to me, LOL. Now I am a loyal disciple of his purple majesty from way back in the day, the man is a genius no doubt, but I will try not to fawn over him too much (uhhh except for this last sentence).
That voice, whewwww *swoon*. Prince didn't look a day older than he did 20 years ago (how does he do that?). He tore it up and Sheila E. just finished it off and killed it. I love that woman! Also performing were Morris Day and Jerome, Frank McComb singing and playing keyboards on Curtis Mayfield's "Movin On Up" (check my latest radioblog for a song from Frank called Intimate Time), a singer I think he called "Ashley" singing Aretha's "Never Loved A Man", and a new song from Prince called "Satisfied".

By the way, the "3121" printed on the back of Prince's shirt is in reference to his Hollywood Hills mansion address where he has been known to throw some late night/early morning jam sessions like one he gave recently after the Oscars (yall know I gotta be thorough, lol)

I know she's made some bad moves (movies and records) and she tends to go overboard with the bombshell role, but part of me is really pulling for her. The girl can sing. I hope the new CD does well. It's scheduled to be released on April 12.

Faith is back with a new video for Again from her forthcoming LP First Lady coming April 5. Her kids make a brief appearance including Lil B.I.G. (the one in the blue and red stripes in this pic) and she addresses her arrest on drug charges in the song.
New releases have been updated. We have a good variety this week from Julie Dexter, Thievery Corporation, Cormega, Ravi Coltrane, and Aesop Rock plus more. Yall check it out and tell me what's good so I can decide what I want to include on the new release radio.blog this Friday.
Thanks again to Ohsokool who shouted me out a few times on his radio show tonight (blowing my head up, lol). Thanks for the compliments on the site. I appreciate the love and return it. You can check Ohsokool and Ms. Kia Star every Monday night from 8pm -12am ET on Sugatreats, 90.3FM in Harlem. If you're not in NY go to whcr.org to check it out. He's got a good mix of new soul, hip-hop, and r&b or some .."head noddin, neck snappin, ear candy" as he calls it. I was listening while I was updating the site and he spun everything from Joi, to Foreign Exchange to Jill Scott to Wordsworth to Skillz. Martin Luther is coming up as a guest in a few weeks. Queen Latifah has released a new video from her Dana Owens album. Al Green joins her for the remake of his song Simply Beautiful. Latifah is looking as glamorous as ever and Rev. Al never disappoints. This fits in perfectly with a radio.blog I was going to do that uses his original version. I'll be back in a few hours or tomorrow morning to elaborate.

MTV has Nas' new video Just A Moment featuring rapper/singer Quan. This is one of my favorite cuts from the Street's Disciple LP. He premiered it yesterday on 106 & Park and said the next video will be for U.B.R (Unauthorized Biography of Rakim), another one of my favorites. I like this video, but I am a lil biased (read huge Nas Fan).
VH1 continues it's series Black in the 80's tonight with Part 3 - Color in Films. Thanks Mike for reminding me and thanks Lis for helping me find a way to update the site with the info on the front page.

Fantasia's video Truth Is [launch] ponders the age-old question; Why do your ex's always look better when they are with somebody else? Of course it's been so long since I had an ex, I can't even remember their names (that's my story and I'm sticking to it, LOL). I'm so glad they didn't take Fantasia the pop route.
Dancehall Queen Lady Saw has a video for I Got Your Man [launch] which is actually pretty tame for her, LOL. This one answers another age-old question. Why do other people's men look better to some women?
