Underground Soul: Sirius B Project

There must be something in the Atlanta's water system that enhances your ability to produce soulful music. You could play six degrees of separation, make that six degrees of soul to link all the talented musicians who got their beginnings in the burgeoning Atlanta soul scene. Even then you would probably only need two degrees. Sirius B Project would be one of those degrees. The eight member band played an integral part in helping India.Arie and Donnie become established. Jiva founder Khari Simmons who was once a member of Gaelle's band and is currently India.Arie's bassist is a member of the band along with vocalist Paige Lackey Martin who sang occasionally with Incognito and Seek. Paige also co-wrote Incognito's "If You Want My Love" and has songwriting credits on India.Arie's Acoustic Soul album. Her vocal style, which has been compared to Deniece Williams, is part of the reason this album maintains its mellowness from beginning to end. The other is the cool fusion of soul and jazz. Mellow jazziness is the perfect description for this album. If I had to describe it beyond that, I would simply says it's inspirational groove.
