Conversation with Dwele
Soul 2 Soul with Dwele
Andwele "Dwele" Gardner (his 1st name means "God has brought me" in Swahili) began writing songs at the age of ten, after his father was murdered outside his home in Detroit. In 1998 he made 100 copies of a demo tape "Rize", that quickly spread his reputation as a singer and songwriter. Since that time he has appeared on records with Slum Village ("Tainted"), Bahamadia, the Platinum Pied Pipers and numerous others. After being signed to Virgin Records on the strength of his songwriting and performance skills, he released Subject in 2003.
The self taught multi-instrumentalist with the hypnotically smooth singing voice talked to me about his sexy new album "Some Kinda" (scheduled for release in October), his thoughts on Luther Vandross, what his typical day is like and even offers up a little fantasy. You don't want to miss his acapella performance or the preview of his new single "I Think I Love U", available at iTunes.
